200 mattresses, room heaters, blankets added to existing infra to facilitate homeless
Ludhiana, January 12 (Rajkumar Sathi). For ensuring proper functioning of night shelters to facilitate the homeless, Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal conducted surprise inspections at the night shelters on Sunday midnight. Surprise inspections were done at night shelters situated in Moti Nagar (Ghoda colony), near Vishwakarma chowk and Haibowal dairy complex. The inspections continued till around 1:30am. The civic body officials stated that recently 200 mattresses, blankets, room heaters etc were added to the existing infrastructure to facilitate the homeless visiting the night shelters. Wherever required, renovation works have also been taken up at the night shelters. The civic body has also tied up with different NGOs, Gurudwara management committees for providing food to the homeless at the night shelters. City buses have also been deployed for ferrying the homeless to the night shelters during the night hours. MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal stated that the concerned officials of the civic body have been directed to ensure regular maintenance of the night shelters and ensure that the homeless do not face any problem. Dachalwal further stated that the zonal commissioners have been directed to ensure proper functioning of night shelters falling under their respective zones.
