Ludhiana June 10 (Rajkumar Sathi). Former state BJP president, Shwait Malik, today characterized the ongoing by-election in the Ludhiana West constituency as a fundamental “fight between truth and evil.” Addressing newsmen, Malik asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) operates on the principle of “more work, less talk,” highlighting the party’s commitment to tangible development. Malik emphasized that the BJP’s robust cadre and dedicated workers are operating under the “dynamic leadership” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has secured a historic third consecutive term. He underlined the BJP’s standing as the largest political party in India, urging voters in Ludhiana West to elect BJP candidate Jiwan Gupta, a veteran party leader with over three decades of service. Malik confidently predicted that Gupta’s victory would usher in “a flood of development works” for the constituency. Seeking votes for Gupta, Malik underscored the BJP leadership’s vision, citing the construction of an international-level railway station in Ludhiana and the nearly complete airport as key initiatives of the Modi government. He also credited the Modi government for the elevated roads and flyovers that have significantly improved Ludhiana’s infrastructure. Malik further enumerated the achievements of the Modi-led government, including the establishment of the first Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Punjab, the first AIIMS at Bathinda, and a satellite hospital of PGI in Ferozepur. He also highlighted national schemes such as free food grains for 80 crore people, the Ayushman Bharat scheme, substantial benefits for industry, and the “One Nation, One Tax” initiative. Malik stressed that despite the absence of a BJP government in Punjab, the party has approved major development works across the state, demonstrating its commitment to the entire nation. Taking a strong jibe at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress, Malik accused both parties of “looting Punjab” and “befooling Punjabis” with unfulfilled promises. He contrasted Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s initial promise of living in a two-bedroom house with his subsequent move to a lavish bungalow. Malik expressed his surprise at the conduct of AAP candidate Sanjeev Arora, stating he initially believed only Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was the “comedian” in the AAP government in Punjab. He questioned Arora’s promises of significant development in the next one and a half years, pointing out that Arora, as a Rajya Sabha MP for over three years, had seemingly “slept” on development for Ludhiana during that period. Malik also referenced the late AAP MLA Gurpreet Gogi, an “honest MLA,” who had once symbolically broken a foundation stone, alleging a lack of development works. He criticized AAP for failing to deliver on promises to decrease power rates for industry and domestic consumers, and for not fulfilling other pledges such as free Wi-Fi and Rs 5 food. The former state BJP president claimed that leaders “discarded in Delhi” are being given “plum posts” in Punjab, complete with vehicles and bungalows, thereby burdening taxpayers. He sarcastically remarked that this was not an “Aam Aadmi Party” but a “Khas Aam Aadmi” (special common man) party. Malik asserted that the BJP is making significant progress in Punjab, citing an increase in their vote share from 8 to 19 percent in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He expressed concern over the “proliferating” drug, sand, and liquor mafias in Punjab, suggesting that CM Bhagwant Mann is under pressure from these elements. Finally, Malik lambasted the Congress party, accusing it of favoring terrorists and stating that the party is being “wiped from the country by people.” He concluded by declaring that Jiwan Gupta’s victory in the by-election would “set the narrative for 2027 in Punjab,” when he believes the BJP will form the government in the state.
