Commissionerate Police Ludhiana Conducts Special Drive against illegal selling of Tobacco/ e-cigarettes nearby schools

Ludhiana, May 6 (Rajkumar Sathi). In a focused effort to ensure safety and security, the Commissionerate police Ludhiana carried a comprehensive drive targeting tobacco sellers/ shopkeepers on 06.05.25 . This initiative was executed with precision to safeguard the well-being of school going children, their parents and the general public.

Details of the Drive
The drive, conducted between 03:00 PM and 05:00 PM, focused on High-Traffic areas at Malhar road , near Govt. College Ludhiana, Ishmeet Singh chowk near Govt. School, Model Town market near GTB College & Hospital, Educational Institute / Schools, ensuring a strong police presence. Spearheaded by Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, the operation was a collaborative effort with 02 ADCP’s, 06 ACP’s and 08 SHO’s along with the force from police stations and the Field Media Team (FMT).

Objectives of the Drive
Here are the key objectives of a drive against tobacco/e-cigarettes’ selling near Educational Institute / Schools:
1. Protect Student’s Health: To safeguard children and adolescents from the harmful effects of tobacco and prevent early addiction.
2. Ensure Compliance with Laws: To enforce the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003, which prohibits tobacco sales within 100 yards of educational institutions/ schools.
3. Promote a Tobacco-Free Environment: To create a clean, safe, and healthy atmosphere around schools conducive to learning and development.
4. Raise Public Awareness: To educate shopkeepers, parents, and the community about the dangers of tobacco use and legal consequences of illegal sales.
5. Discourage Easy Access to Tobacco: To reduce the availability and temptation of tobacco products to underage individuals.

Key Outcomes
Under this drive in total 8 highly crowded placed were raided and a dozen of Hookahs, E- cigarettes , pipes, chimneys, packets of flavor have been recovered and in total 6 FIRs are being registered against the shop owners
