Money for Advertisements, But Not for Employees’ and Pensioners’ Legitimate Dues

Former Union Minister, former Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and former Punjab BJP President Shri Vijay Sampla today said the Punjab and Haryana High Court has completely exposed the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP Government’s anti-government employee and anti-pensioner mindset by rejecting every argument advanced to deny Dearness Allowance (DA) arrears to government employees. Flanked by District President BJP Ludhiana Sunil Moudgil, Sampla said that even after losing the case, the Punjab Government issued a statement repeating the very same arguments that were rejected by the High Court in its detailed judgment. “Instead of accepting the verdict, the government is trying to mislead Punjabis by recycling excuses that have already been dismissed by the court,” he said. He said the High Court clearly ruled that the government cannot selectively implement the recommendations of the Pay Commission. While Punjab accepted higher pay scales, it cannot refuse to honour the corresponding DA pattern. The Court also held that basic salary and DA serve different purposes and cannot be compared to justify denial of employees’ legitimate dues. Rejecting the government’s plea of financial constraints, the Court observed that fiscal difficulties cannot be used to withhold accrued legal benefits. It further remarked that expenditure on advertisements and other unproductive activities cannot become an excuse to deny employees and pensioners their rightful payments. Sampla said Punjab’s serving employees and retired pensioners have become the biggest victims of the AAP Government’s financial mismanagement and misplaced priorities. “A government that has money for self-promotion and publicity but claims to have no money for employees’ dues has lost all moral authority,” he said. Demanding immediate implementation of the High Court’s directions, Sampla urged the Bhagwant Mann Government to release all pending DA arrears within the prescribed timeline instead of wasting public money on unnecessary litigation. “The issue is no longer just about DA arrears. It is about the credibility of a government that promised respect to employees but delivered only broken promises, court battles and financial uncertainty,” Sampla added.District Present Sunil Moudgil, general secretary doctor Kanika Jindal,vice President Mahesh Sharma,Harsh Sharma,Nirmal Nayyar,Sumit Tondon were also present during the press Conference.
