8 Samples of Ghee, Spices, Jaggery and Other Food Items Collected

No Compromise with Consumer Health; Strict Action Against Adulterators: Dr. Ashish Chawla

Ludhiana, June 02 (Rajkumar Sathi). As part of the Punjab Government’s ongoing drive to ensure the availability of safe and quality food to consumers, the Food Safety Team, Ludhiana, conducted a special sampling campaign across various parts of the city today. The drive was carried out under the directions of Dr. Ashish Chawla, District Health Officer, Ludhiana. During the campaign, Food Safety Officers collected one sample of jaggery from the Preet Vihar area. In addition, two samples of ghee, including one sample of cow ghee and one sample of desi ghee, were collected from a shop located at Kailash Nagar Chowk. The team also collected one sample of Keert Sambhuji Ghee. Further inspections were carried out in the Gyan Vihar area, where special checks were conducted on spices. During the exercise, two samples of turmeric powder, two samples of red chilli powder and one sample of coriander powder were collected. Officials stated that all samples were collected as per the prescribed procedure under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The collected samples will be sent to the Government Food Testing Laboratory for analysis. Dr. Ashish Chawla stated that protecting consumer health remains the department’s top priority. He said that if any sample is found to be non-compliant with prescribed standards, appropriate legal action will be initiated against the concerned Food Business Operator under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. He further emphasized that no one involved in food adulteration, sale of substandard food products, or activities endangering public health will be spared. Dr. Chawla added that such inspection and sampling drives will continue regularly in the future to ensure the quality and safety of food products available to consumers. The Food Safety Department has appealed to consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing food products, carefully check quality, labeling and hygiene standards, and immediately report any suspected food safety violations to the department.
