Ludhiana, June 14 (Rajkumar Sathi). Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini today launched a scathing attack on Punjab’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, accusing it of prioritizing political maneuvering over resolving critical state issues. His remarks came during a press conference in Ludhiana, where he was campaigning for Jiwan Gupta, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the Ludhiana West by-election. Chief Minister Saini specifically criticized the AAP government for its refusal to provide drinking water to Haryana from the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) share. “The AAP government is engaging in mere politics on serious state issues instead of solving them,” Saini asserted. “Matters like water distribution from BBMB, the drug menace, and even Minimum Support Price (MSP) for farmers are being exploited for their selfish motives.” Saini further alleged that the AAP government’s recent anti-drug drives were a “drama” designed to deflect public attention from its governance failures, rather than genuinely apprehending culprits. He contrasted Punjab’s approach with Haryana’s, stating that the Haryana government provides crop subsidies to farmers in line with central government schemes, unlike Punjab.
Accusations of Deceit and Corruption
The Chief Minister did not spare previous administrations either, stating, “First Congress for five years, and now the Aam Aadmi Party for three and a half years, have cheated the voters of Punjab.” He claimed that while the public initially turned to AAP due to disillusionment with Congress policies, the current government has proven “even two steps beyond in corruption and breaking promises.” Saini suggested a hidden alliance between the two parties, driven by “selfish motives.”Emphasizing the humanitarian aspect of the water dispute, Saini highlighted Punjab’s spiritual heritage. “There was no need for drama over releasing water to Haryana from BBMB because we were asking for drinking water,” he stated. “Punjab is a land of great Gurus who believed that nobody should go without drinking water, yet this government denied water to Haryana.” He concluded by calling for an end to politicizing inter-state relations, noting that Haryana and Punjab are “brothers.”
Punjab’s Missed Opportunities Under Central Schemes
Chief Minister Saini also drew a stark contrast between Haryana and Punjab in the implementation of central government schemes. He proudly detailed Haryana’s successful adoption of initiatives like Ayushman Bharat, PM Awas Yojana, and PM Krishi Yojana, emphasizing the significant benefits delivered to the state’s populace. He cited examples such as ₹2.5 crore spent on medical bills for the poor under Ayushman Bharat, 13 lakh free electricity connections, and 15 lakh free gas cylinders under the Ujjwala scheme, along with the construction of public toilets to ensure women’s dignity. “Punjab has lagged in all these benefits,” Saini remarked, urging the electorate to seize the opportunity to elect the BJP and bring similar progress to the state.
Confidence in BJP’s Electoral Prospects
During his campaign activities, which included meetings with industrialists and various community members, Chief Minister Saini expressed strong confidence in the BJP’s prospects for the Ludhiana West by-election. “After attending the public meetings, I am sure that Ludhiana West will elect Jiwan Gupta as MLA from the constituency because they are not happy with the corrupt policies of both Congress and AAP,” he stated. Saini believes the people are determined to give the BJP a chance, sending a clear message across Punjab and the nation that the BJP will form the next government in the state. In the press conference, BJP leaders Dayal Singh Sodhi, Anil Sarin, Rajnish Dhiman, Gurdev Sharma Debi, Kamaljit Soi, DR Satish, Naval Jain, Mona Jaiswal, Sunil Singla, Rakesh Goel and AK Arora.
